Solar Power, The Only Way To Go?

I think solar power is the best electricity option out there. Using solar power for your electricity needs can save you a fortune over the long term, and you will know that you are helping the planet by harnessing the energy of the sun to run your house, instead of using coal based electricity. I mean, they can’t keep mining coal for ever, can they?

Solar power is also quiet, unlike noisy wind turbines. Some people are sensitive to noise, and it may be impractical for them to consider using wind turbines to generate their electricity.

I read that the Australian government wants everyone to gradually switch over to solar hot water in the next few years. This is a good idea in theory, but how much is it going to cost people who are still using electric hot water to switch over? Some people, like pensioners, may struggle to afford to install solar hot water.

Using solar power can be one way of going off the grid completely. If you have enough solar panels installed, you will have enough electricity, even if you have an occasional gloomy day. However, I don’t know what I would do if I only had solar power and no back up mains electricity and there was a succession of gloomy days!

Candles, maybe?
