I’ve read that organic farming in Australia is predicted to be number 2 on the top 10 list of growth industries.

Isn’t that great?

I think everyone should be eating organic food, as it is so much better for you and I think it’s come a long way from the early days when the fruit and vegetables were strange shapes and didn’t look very appetizing at all.

Organic food means there’s no nasty fertilizers or pesticides used in the growing of that food. As far as I know there are two types of organic food. Certified organic, where the food is grown to strict organic rules and principles and the organic farm is inspected by a governing organic body.

And non-certified organic. With non-certified organic, the food might be every bit as good as the certified organic food, but the farmer may not be able to afford certification or may have to wait a certain number of years before they will be granted certification. Usually, 3 years or so.

Locals in Tasmania reckon that our state could become the food bowl of the nation! We have good rainfall in most parts of the state and with all the interest in organics these days, I think it would be a good solution for farmers who aren’t making much money with traditional farming.

What are your thoughts on eco-friendly organics food?

Cheers,
Jennifer!
