Are You Reducing Your Carbon Footprint? Simple Everyday Changes Everyone Can Make

Global warming is a real concern, and I have started becoming more aware of what I can do to reduce my carbon footprint. Our oceans are rising and there are some areas on the planet that have been victim to this badly already. Thankfully I don?t have a house beach front and I?m very glad that I don?t.

By 2050 the ocean is thought to increase by about 23 inches in some areas and 45 inches by 2100. That is about a metre by 2100. Now that might not seem much, unless you are living at or below sea level. Then you have a lot to worry about. I decided to change a few things that I do to help out.

I for one, try not to use power as much as possible. We live in the Northern Territory and it can get really hot. Instead of putting on the air conditioner, we only run it at night for about 3 hours to cool our bedroom, the rest of the time we either put up with the heat or jump in the pool.

I only run the ceiling fans in the room I am in. We have a solar hot water system. I wash most of my clothes on cold cycle. I turn off appliances at the power point, so they don't use standby power.

Even though my local shire does not have a recycling program, but I still try to recycle as much as I can. Even though it doesn't seem like a lot, if everyone contributed just a little bit, we could make a huge difference collectively.

Try This New Product To Green Your Home
by: Jim

The electric clothes dryer is the most inefficient appliance in the home. It heats up air to 140 degrees, dries the clothes and then exhausts that heat outside.

Two Senior citizens from Washington, MO have developed a new filter for an electric dryer. Jim & Sandy Atkinson were driving around and saw steam coming out of the side of homes. They thought, "What a waste of heat!"

So, they started experimenting with different products and were not satisfied with any of them. They decided to develop their own product. They named it, DryerNet; It filters the air coming out of the dryer so well, you can hardly smell anything. It filters down to .5 microns and removes all the contaminants. Jim's physician says it filters down to the bacteria level.

The original thought was to save on heat to cut expenses but they have discovered added benefits to the product. It adds much needed moisture in the winter, you don't have to have a humidifier going since the Dryernet adds moisture.

With the added moisture, Sandy doesn't have to use skin moisturizer. It makes it easier to breathe at night cutting down on that dry mouth feeling in the morning. It cuts down on static electricity.

They found out that if your dryer vent is shorter than 10 feet, the dryer dries the clothes faster due to increased airflow., so that saves energy too.

Overall, Jim and Sandy saved about $20.00 a month on their heating bill. If you use your dryer more than 4 times a week, you'll save more. Many house fires are caused by a clogged dryer vent, not with the DryerNet!

How often does a "Green" product pay for itself in a month and a half? If ten percent of the electric dryers used the dryernet, over 1 Billion dollars in energy use would be saved, each year.

We have been featured on Fox news in St. Louis, KOLR-TV in Springfield, MO and KOMU in Columbia, MO.
